Joseph Sabato, M.D., a graduate of University or Massachussetts Medical School class of 1979, is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine. Practicing Emergency Medicine for the past 21 years, he served as an Emergency Department Medical Director for 15 years. Dr. Sabato has been active in highway safety for 9 years. An epidemic of teenage car crashes racking Derry, New Hampshire led Dr. Sabato and others to found New Hampshire's first Safe Communities Program in Derry in 1996, the Community Alliance for Teen Safety(CATS). CATS was recognized in 1999 at the World Injury Prevention Conference for Special Recognition. Dr. Sabato's work in highway safety has included Buckle Up 55, a program through the New Hampshire Public Health Association to increase seat belt use in people over 55, Instant Impact, a program developed by the American College of Emergency Physicians to provide information for Emergency Physicians to help promote seat belt use, and spearheading the initiation of a Medical Advisory Board in New Hampshire. Currently, Dr. Sabato is the co-chair of the New Hampshire Intersections Project bringing Public Health, Emergency Medical Services and Public Safety together around common issues. Dr Sabato now serves as the Medical Director for the City of Nashua Division of Public Health and Community Services responsible for emergency preparedness.
